HOW TO MAKE AN AFFOGATO AL CAFFÉ
This is a neat little trick that you can get in every Italian bar or coffee shop: it turns an espresso coffee into a delicious dessert in one second. Affogato means ‘drowned’, and what could be nicer for a scoop of cold vanilla gelato than to be drowned in a tiny cupful of aromatic hot expresso? It’s a great way to show off your Italian coffee pot, so try it for dessert or for a mid-afternoon pick-up.

- 1 scoop vanilla gelato
- 2 Cantuccini biscuits
- 1 espresso
METHOD
Serves 1
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: none
- Make sure you have everything ready before you make the espresso as it needs to be piping hot. Put a scoop of vanilla gelato in a serving bowl. Arrange the biscuits on a plate. Make the coffee and pour it over the gelato. Enjoy it right away!
